SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA (MPG) - Ready to retire formal wear collecting dust in your closet? Give your glam a new home. Starting Jan. 21, Sacramento Public Library will accept donations of jackets, ties, dresses, shoes and accessories for its annual Prom Drive. Visit www.saclibrary.org/prom for full details.

Drop off gently-used formalwear from Jan. 21 through Feb. 1, at any library location during regular hours of operations. Donated clothing, shoes, jewelry and accessories should be free of holes, stains, rips and tears. A variety of styles and sizes including extended and plus are needed.

The library will host a series of Prom Giveaway events in the spring. Teens can browse the free collection and take home the perfect outfit for their special night. Last year, more than 900 teens shopped free Prom Giveaway events at the library.

"Prom should be a celebration, not a financial burden. Our Prom Drive ensures that every teen has the chance to shine without worrying about the cost," said Christie Hamm, Sacramento Public Library Youth Services manager. "This initiative, created by teens for teens, allows them to express themselves through the perfect outfit and make lasting memories."

Sacramento Public Library is committed to removing barriers and expanding access for all in our community. From free access to information and technology to a range of learning opportunities and experiences, the Sacramento Public Library strives to meet the community’s needs.

The Prom Drive is one of many programs for youth. Teens are invited to a free night of fun at the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria from 8 to 11 p.m. Jan. 25. Library After Hours: Teen Takeover will feature video games, a deejay, board games, food and drinks.
